SGRIPTIOFEST 2022

SgriptioFest made its long awaited return in 2022 providing a platform for community writers, actors and directors to share their new work in all formats! There were more submissions than ever this year in a wide array of formats, including short plays, spoken word, film and an extract from an upcoming novel.

With the help of the Anna Evans Community Arts Grant, we were able to include a series of workshops and interviews with professional writers between November 2021 and February 2022 providing access to the very best advice in the industry. These were playwright and screenwriter Lucy Gough, acclaimed storyteller Phil Okwedy, award winning writer and spoken word poet Eric Ngalle Charles, and Welsh language playwright and writer Elgan Rhys. The project then culminated in a livestreamed event that included both in person staging of the pieces and filmed work, with video conferencing allowing us to connect writers, directors and performers from Ceredigion with those from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. We were very proud to see very different pieces and themes this year, as well as community members of all ages and very different walks of life producing work in both Welsh and in English. The livestream reached audiences of roughly 150, and we look forward to seeing more people accessing the work via our Facebook and YouTube pages over the coming months.

We are hugely grateful to the Anna Evans Grant for making the project possible, to all of the writers for bravely sharing your new work and works in progress, the directors and writers for putting your creative energy into the pieces, our staff for making SGRIPTIOFEST a success (despite the odd technical hitch) and all who have supported the new writing by being in the audience.
