We want to provide those that work with us with invaluable experiences in all areas of the theatre before they embark on careers in the industry, as well as the support they need to see their ideas come to life.

The Roman Empire is falling apart. As the tyrannical reign of Tiberius Caesar comes to an end, his adopted nephew, Gaius, steps into the breach. Guided by his beloved sister, Drusilla, Gaius seems poised to get Rome back on track... until his mind begins to break. Surrounded by ambitious praetorians, vicious siblings and stubborn senators, Gaius descends into a madness beyond even his own reckoning.

Little Boots is a grandiose play set during the reign of notorious Roman Emperor Caligula. With a nuanced focus on issues of mental health and the experiences of the women of Ancient Rome, this four part audio drama made in collaboration with Blood Sweat and Tea Productions, brings together a combined cast of twelve professional and community actors as well as a score of original music composed by our own Anna Sherratt and Jessica Gittins.

Little Boots launches 1st March 2021 and will be available wherever you get your podcasts.

In August 2020, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, we were able to launch a festival of interactive community theatre to people staying at home. Funded by the “Get Creative at Home” scheme, SGRIPTŶOFEST was a live streamed bilingual festival of new writing from Aberystwyth and beyond. Eight new pieces of writing from community playwrights were filmed in and around people’s homes via video conferencing calls. The participants were of all ages and backgrounds, from experienced actors and playwrights to those who were writing, acting or directing for the first time.

The livestream was also a fundraiser for the Anna Evans Community Arts Grant, which was founded last year, and over £500 was raised on the night to support Ceredigion community arts projects.

You can watch each of the eight short films, as well as the entire live show over on our YouTube Page.

In 2019 we were invited to collaborate with Aberystwyth Arts Centre on a HEFCW funded project called Cartref/Home. The project was designed to reach people of all ages in rural Ceredigion communities and encourage connection between them, as well as allowing students from the university to lead community workshops and artistic activities following guidance from professional arts practitioners. We were pleased to work regularly with communities from Tregaron Family Centre, Bryntirion Residential Home, Ysgol Henry Richard and Ysgol Pontrhydfendigaid throughout the year. The project culminated in a three week exhibition in Aberystwyth Arts Centre which included a rich variety of work including films, original music, storytelling, tepees, photography, carpentry, sculptures, poetry and paintings, as well as a community celebration of all the participants' hard work over the seven months.

Awaken Productions provided the training sessions for the student artists in community arts facilitation, led the performing arts aspects of the community workshops, participated in the artistic residencies and supported the curation of the final exhibition.

SGRIPTIO

7pm Every Saturday - Discord

“I realised the only reason I have been sane this year is because I have these interactions every Saturday”
~ Georgia, a Sgriptio member

Sgriptio started in 2018 as an open forum for writers, actors and directors of all experience levels to share new writing and ideas with their peers, and to give feedback and advice to others in a relaxed setting.

With the onset of the pandemic, we transitioned these sessions online which has opened up the sessions to people from much farther afield. Participants are invited to share new work, read and respond to the work of others and take part in writing games and exercises to help keep everyone inspired. The new writing shared can include screenplays, theatre scripts, musicals, novels, poetry, games and more!

All are welcome to join our discord server, whether they are just getting into writing, are experienced bards or simply enjoy acting and hearing new work. We currently meet every Saturday at 7pm via “voice chat” and have open text chat channels during the week. If you need any help using discord or joining the group, please contact us!

“A group of young people gather in a hospital ward to face another day of poking, prodding, pills and poison, with their fates decided by statistics and luck. A group of young adventurers meet to begin a quest across a strange land, with their fates decided by the roll of some dice. This is a tale of courage and friendship in two worlds, where battling dragons often feels easier than battling cancer.”

Awaken Productions bring this unique, award winning piece of devised theatre to life, with alternative story options as the audience roll a selection of large dice! Many performances have included special charity fundraisers for Young Lives VS Cancer – a charity that supports young people and their families through the devastation of cancer. The piece also features original music written by young people on the Young Lives VS Cancer music programme. This is a one-of-a-kind evening, with laughter, tears, and above all, hope.

“All oncology nurses should see it”

“Wir yn un o'r pethau gorau dwi wedi gweld yn y 5 mlynedd dwetha”

“Brilliantly done. You won’t see the same show twice!”
