Making performing arts in the time of COVID-19: A statement from our Artistic Director

covid-19 update.jpg

The last year has been a difficult time for all arts and events companies, technicians, artists and freelancers, and even more so for emerging artists and companies. With no way to provide valuable in-person experiences, whether they are live performances, exhibitions, workshops or other arts activities, we have all had to learn, adapt and create new work that is possible from a distance.

On a positive note, it has been a valuable opportunity to try working in different ways, and this has certainly been successful with our ongoing online Sgriptio sessions. These have benefited greater numbers of community members than before and many attendees have enjoyed the convenience of attending from home and have expressed that they feel more confident sharing new work online. We have also had amazing opportunities to network and collaborate with other arts companies and artists, and reflect on things that need to change in our own practices, in terms of diversity and inclusion, our impact on the climate, and our desire for social change.

As we continue to keep going despite having a small team and the loss of lots of potential income, I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the young people, community members and professional artists that have made it possible for us to keep making new and exciting arts experiences for people in Ceredigion, Wales and across the UK.
