Lights, Camera, Action for “Her, Me and It”
“Her, Me and It” a new film by Awaken Productions in collaboration with AMP Media and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, has begun its pre-production phase. The small crew have been working in various locations around Borth and Aberystwyth to bring this powerful story about life after sexual violence to the screen.
The screenplay was written by Anna Sherratt, and is inspired by the real stories of people who have experienced sexual violence. Actor Mari Fflur Rowlands (Arth, The Two Gentlemen of Verona) is bringing the main character to life, working in both Welsh and in English.
The film is part of a wider project for schools and young people which has included workshops and focus groups throughout its development, as well as providing young people opportunities to get involved as actors and in set design. The main focus has been on providing safe spaces to talk about sexual violence and raise awareness of available support and changing perspectives on people that have experienced sexual violence and those responsible for perpetrating it.
Production was able to begin following the lifting of some Covid-19 restrictions in Wales in April 2021. The final film is due for release in 2022 and will be made available to schools and community groups across Wales, serving as a legacy for the project.
“We are hugely grateful to the National Lottery Community fund, our collaborators at AMP and all of the actors and crew for working with us to create what will be a brilliant film alongside a very eye-opening community project. Although this story cannot represent every experience, we hope that it will add to the “noise”, bring some hope to people in a dark place, and help us to answer some of the questions we were afraid to ask.” - Anna Sherratt, writer and director of Her, Me and It.
