“Tension is brewing backstage, the cucumber sandwiches are set, the actors take their places, but who is playing Ernest? Awaken Productions presents this contemporary twist on Oscar Wilde's classic comedy for serious people.”
In September 2016, young director Tim Medcalf and the team worked on bringing a fresh feel to Oscar Wilde's traditional text. We felt that if they were brought into the modern-day, the characters of this classic piece might just be members of a highly dysfunctional and chaotic theatre company.
Armed with the contents of three houses, a set of industrial party poppers, one hundred cardboard boxes, and a lot of imagination, we embarked on the journey to bring this larger-than-life vision to the stage and immerse the audience in the world of our titular Earnest.
We would like to thank: The Morlan Centre, The Cambrian Hotel, Brynamlwg Social Club and Dave Edmunds for the help and support with this production. Many Thanks!
